Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 arrived on Mac over two years after it was released for Windows and follows on from two of the biggest video games in history. The Modern Warfare series is right up there with EAs Battlefield for making a serious claims to the First Person Shooter (FPS) warfare crown.
Battle across the globe
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has of course both single and multiplayer gameplay and whereas Battlefield 3 has frighteningly realistic urban warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 takes a very different approach. In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Russia is invading the US as well as England, Germany and France. It's also fighting a dirty war, with terrorist attacks on major cities, setting the scene for some dramatic missions.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 see you battle across the globe, from New York to Europe and Africa, stepping into the shoes of different people along the way. It's very much Call of Duty, but is yet another stride away from reality. The single player campaign is impressive, while being heavily scripted and very linear. However, the concentration on big set pieces really sets apart from Battlefield. This is the bombastic Hollywood action-movie game, which is not necessarily a bad thing, even if the plot seems far fetched.
Enhanced multiplayer mode
It's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer mode that attracts the most attention and it's fair to say it's better than ever. There are plenty of new toys to get to grips with, and the usual CoD XP for players to earn, but it's the integration of the social CoD Elite service, connecting multiplayer achievements with things like Facebook that is really new. There are also new 'strike packages', which offer in game perks for achievements, each suited different types of player. Graphically the multiplayer is better than ever too.
Same old formula
Although Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 follows the same old formula of the previous releases, it still brings more action, better multiplayer features and will appeal to anyone that was a fan of the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. However, if you're a seasoned Modern Warfare player, it probably won't take you very long to complete the Campaign as the level of difficulty hasn't really been increased.
A classic Call of Duty follow-up
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is everything you'd expect from the Call of Duty series and now Mac users can finally enjoy it too.
